Sad for the ppl, but at some point Mattels bad decitions and problems with so many things will have a an impact.
I only have two lines in focus but i guess it happens to other toylines from Mattel aswell.
Take the Masters of the Universe toy line, Mattel has serveral different Matsers lines in the market. Origins, Masterverse, Power Line ( CGI series) and the Mega one. Its just to many stuff and ppl dont buy everything. That is a whole bad decition and leads to merchands cant sell the toys. Sales of all are quite bad, because of serveral reasons:
1. Pricing: A lot items are way to expensive set from Mattel and the merchands have to pay a high price when they want to sell the toys. Custoners however wont pay such high prices and so a lot merchands will not make profit or even loose money. For that reason they have less and less Mattel toys.
2. Distribution: I can only speak for Germany but we dont get a lot stuff. Toys are mannly bought by collectors and not kids anymore. Collectors want a complete collection, but if you cant get serveral Masters figures or Mega kits you will loose a lot collectors. Importing the stuff often costs twice a much as if you would pay in the US because of expensive shipping and taxes. I see that with the Masters of the Universe Toylies and a lot kits from Mega. Its sometimes very difficult to even obtain some items because they a sold at a limited time window or are sold out fast.
3. Quality problems: If you look at the Masters figures, a lot of the figures had and have issues with quality. Having some stuff leaking, bend fingers and missing action features. If you compare the vintage original Masters Figures to the new origins line, you wil find out a lot of the action features, that made the figures so popular are missing. If you look at Mega recently i have a lot missing parts in the kits but cant order them from Mattel. They cut off the service and so it is a big quality issue for me with the reason that i wont buy that much Mega and surely not at full price.
4. Bad service: If you have a problem, Mattel is hard to reach out and even if you have contact you will get a not helping answer i should call somewhere. I cant reorder missing parts, i cant find instructions online anymore, old ones will get deleted, bad packing of items leads to damaged boxes ( a pain for MISB collectors recently happened with the expensive Eternia playset). This will turn off a lot customers.
So basicly i wonder why Mattel is still in the business. As for Mega i often said it already i beleave Mega would do a lot better if Mattel is not involved. I wonder what jobs that 60 workers had, because the production is made in china.
