Oh i had this set for over a year now. I had not the time to build it, but the holydays gave me finally a few days.
What can i say, the set is the 2nd large "castle" and lines in, with Castle Grayskull. The part count is quite amazing 3802 pcs.
So building this thing took a while, but the build is divided by 5 sections. The largest one is the one with the Snake that came 1st.
Later on you put thease together to have the two halves you can open and close like the original vintage toy.
The Figures are great: Thunder punch He-Man, Ram man (toy version), Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Trap Jaw (toy version), Webstor and Evil-Lyn.
Evil-Lyn looks similar to the Heros line toys version one but has a different weapon, but i havent looked in detail.
From what i can say the build is very nice, im amazed how the creator did think out all of it. The details, play features, the mix of the Vintage toy and Filmation Snake Mountain and the easter eggs are very cool.
You will notice skeletors throne or the table comming directly from Filmation and i think the lava fall too.
Something i did notice, some parts are made of silicone or soft plastic like the tubes that create a pink plant look or some of the teeth.
I think its the best looking Snake Mountain ever released for Masters of the Universe ( and i think the same for Castle Grayskull for the best playset not the looks) with a lot play features.
You have a hidden door for the prison, trap door, two big gates, moveable Snake, moveable jaw from the demon face and great posing places.
The bad: I had 9 pieces that where missing from the bag or even worse false. I could replace most of the missing parts from the leftovers from other bags or alter the build a little to finish the build.
For a Mattel retail price of 419.99€ i expect no missing or wrong pieces, especially when i cant oder replacement parts.
Pretty bad quality control, as i had thease issues more often lately.
Is this worth 420€? nope thats way to expensive, i dont know what Mattel is thinking. I did buy it for 200€ at preorder while it was listed for over 300€ for quite some time at retail.
No wonder not many ppl bought this great set because of the high price. I bough my 2nd one now at 140€ and at that pice tag its a very good deal. I can even justify 200€ or even some more.
This set is really great and i think LEGO would not be able to do this. This is clearly a set that let MEGA shine bright and why i think MEGA has the way better themes and builds.
The issues are the stone quality, that i have sometimes a very hard time to put the stones together and the wrong or missing parts. Colors are also not the same from one color.
Another thing that keeps MEGA down is Mattel itself with strange distribution and very high pricing, while the sets a dumped a year later.
