Back on the Barbie subject, though: I stopped by Walmart today and happened to peruse the Barbie aisle. I didn't see a single stubby Barbie anywhere, so I still can't figure what MEGA is after with that. It's not like they're evoking a beloved stubby line that's already strong in the market. They're taking a property that's been iconic for decades and doing a 180 on everything that's made the property iconic! I am thinking of a product line based on a character of "stubby". For some reason I just find that to be amusing and fun to collect (in theory).

I can kind of see it as a product line unto itself, but MEGA simply isn't a big enough market presence to spearhead such a fundamental departure from an established, iconic property on its own. Better to release a standalone "stubby" line, rather than swinging & missing as they've done in this case.
I think we're all basically on the same page, in that we want MEGA to succeed, so my complaint here isn't intended to diss the brand but rather to ask "what are they thinking?!?" in an exaggerated tone.

Does anyone know if Lego has the Avatar license?
Disclaimer: I couldn't possibly care less about the sequels, because the first one bored me silly (though the visuals were of course groundbreaking).
Still, lots of cool vehicles, creatures, mechs and the like.

Ugh. That's disappointing. Lego might as well be Disney, gobbling up everything in sight.
I'm old enough to remember Lego's pre-Star Wars days, when the more vocal AFOL's wouldn't be caught dead building with such a "commercialized" product. But they've ridden that license hard for almost a quarter century now.

Personally I find the hypocrisy of LEGO to be like a slap in the face. LEGO always claimed they would never make sets that embodied the nature of war or conflict and yet their most popular sets for the past 20 years have been STAR WARS which by it's very nature is about conflict and war and even has the word "war" in it's name. At the same time LEGO said they would never make military sets under the LEGO name. So I wonder how long it is before LEGO sees the market for military vehicles and equipment as profitable and decides to enter it too, against their own stated moral stance. And yet I still want to work for them.
Sorry for the rant.

I've been making a similar point on & off for decades.
The usual reply is that Lego doesn't produce sets based on modern real-world warfare, which apparently means anything from WWI and later. So pistols and rifles are fine as long as they don't show up in contemporary settings. Or something.
Lego always sticks to its principles until those principles get in the way of profit.

Yeah I have a love/hate relationship with LEGO. I love the creativity that comes with LEGO but I hate the prices that LEGO asks for their sets. That is not to say that other companies are any better, using COBI as an example, when I first found them and their tank sets the price point was I would say "good" but during 2021 COBI suddenly raised the prices on the new sets they were releasing but didn't increase the number of bricks in the sets. Felt like COBI got popular so now they can start the light price gouging. Before anyone says about supply and demand or supply side economics just remember one thing... This is my rant so phttttttt (raspberry sound).

I think there might be some potential in niche products like, randomly popular indie horrors, seems like kids and older folk alike are drawn to them.

I still think MEGA has the perfect opportunity for new sets already in the palm of their hands. Microsoft! They need to talk MS into licensing then the rights for all the new game licenses they have acquired (i.e. Fallout, Doom, etc.. from Bethesda) or are going to acquire from other companies MS is in the process of dealings (i.e. Crash Bandicoot, Overwatch, etc from Activision Blizzard). Lets not forget Microsoft's other licenses MEGA could make Gears of War sets, I'd love some of the vehicles or the massive creatures from the game. MEGA already has communications with Microsoft so it should only be logical they go after more, but with MEGA's track record I'm sure they will drop the ball once again.

Well, I'm still an endorser of historical stuff that doesn't require licenses. Military with no COD, Medieval and D&D with no GoT, Sci-Fi without HALO, American Revolution without Assassin's Creed, American Old West, etc, etc. Also, how about all that everyday city/civilian stuff we were teased with a few years back? Not sure about the market, but I would like to see sets like castles and old west forts with more than 4-5 figures. Do it more like the old Marx playsets. I also wonder if they might be able to benefit from a razors/blades approach on stuff, like the 60s GI Joe marketing. Give people something as a base, then produce accessory items to use with that/those items. Sorry Gramps I should have quoted you earlier on this, yes MEGA should get the D&D license I mean heck they already make Dragons in so many forms and Wyvern from the GOT series. I'd love a Beholder or Tarisque from MEGA.

D&D is owned by Wizards of the Coast, which is owned by Hasbro. So D&D probably isn't gonna happen, though it would be cool.

Oh yeah, that's right. And didn't Hasbro do a D&D run under the KREO line?
