That set looks better and better the more I look at it!
Why wouldn't Mega push for wide retail release of a set that obviously has a lot of fan appeal and is almost guaranteed to sell? Maybe not for $57, but a more reasonable price tag would certainly play well with fans!
Instead, my local Walmart had literally 27 copies of the He-Man vs. Beast-Man set and nothing else.

Interesting, but I have to wonder what their threshold is, and do they really expect every Walmart to stock three dozen copies of a given low-interest set? Rather than the above-mentioned He-Man vs. Beast-Man surplus, wouldn't it have been better to send, say, 15 of that set and 12 of the Advent Calendar?
I'm sure that it's cheaper to produce a zillion copies of one set, but then they can't complain when retailers say "no thanks, we'd rather stock that shelf with Lego."
This of course plays into my larger, ongoing rant about distribution, unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, alas.

I think one of the larger problems is exampled/explained in the following exceedly simplistic mock conversation:
A: What's that? B: A building block A: What are those? B: They are plastic bricks of different shapes and sizes that fit and stick together and you can make all kinds intersting things out of them. A: Oh I have heard about those aren't they called LEGO's?
*Hands whoever is still here 2 pennies.

I saw that come across my recommendations yesterday, and probably would have jumped except for the price. Looks like it ships from Amazon UK, so maybe Amazon USA might get it later for cheaper? Hope so!

Chances are that Yan or Kevin will make sure to let us MOTU people know if and when this set gets the OK for release, whether that happens in 2022 or in some future year. And until they do, I'm disregarding this listing. The fact that Amazon UK let the pre-order go live anyway is, I reckon, just a sign that someone at Amazon UK didn't get the memo that it was a no-go.
That said, it's not bad for a novelty item and looks like a lot of love went into crafting it, but I can think of better ways to spend the dollar amount shown on the pre-order listing.
An interesting side note: at various points in time, the name of this listing has undergone some changes -- it didn't always say "Amazon Exclusive," and for a while it claimed to be the Snake Mountain playset and not the advent calendar, although while that was happening it still had the image of the advent calendar.
