I just realized the question that I should have asked: where in the store are these showing up?
Are they anywhere near LEGO's sacrosanct aisles? Or are they hidden at the rear of the bottom shelf of an end cap at the toy section wasteland facing the bike racks?

I found them in the action figure aisle, bottom shelf, below the new Aliens sets put out by Lanard Toys.

Ok, I found them in western PA, in the action figure section as suggested, on the bottom shelf. Oddly, no corresponding Alien action figures, which means that these were all but invisible to anyone not specifically looking for them. My local store had one box with all six eggs still in it, and I confess that this makes me a bit uneasy, because it represents only the barest, most cautious restocking of Mega Construx. Why not put them in the construction toy aisle? Is it because Mattel doesn't want to be associated with that toy genre? Is it because LEGO tells Walmart where to put its competitors?
I have other concerns about the line itself, beyond Walmart's choice of product placement. On its face, $10.00 for two figures isn't bad at all, but the packaging is all but worthless to me as, I suspect, it is worthless to most would-be purchasers. Add the fact that these are essentially blind purchases, and it amounts to a Mattel rep standing on the box with a bullhorn shouting "Whatever you do, don't buy these!" Yes, of course, the codes are readily available online, but for exactly that reason there's no point in concealing the content. Also, there's more plastic in the egg than in the figures, so how much of the price point is wasted on the packaging? In a similar vein, I have about fourteen Mega Construx Pokeballs that serve no purpose. Now I'm going to have n Xenomorph eggs taking up space.
Mega could correct this by releasing two versions of the set, one with the superfluous packaging and one without, and the packaged set could include some sort of collectible item to justify the purchase. Otherwise, there's no point in dumping the extra plastic on customers, and it's even a potential barrier to the sale. I can imagine a parent saying "I'm not buying that, because you already have a dozen of those eggs rolling around your floor."
And then there's the slime. I get it, Xenomorphs = slime. But other Alien-themed products have managed to find their slimeless niche. I've mentioned before that Mega has been bafflingly smitten with slime for decades, and it's never struck me as a good idea.
This is coming from someone who's been a big fan of the brand for more than a quarter century, so I don't make these criticisms lightly. In its various incarnations, Ritvik/Mega Bloks/Mega Brands/Mega Construx has had repeated opportunities to make good decisions, but they've too frequently (IMO) gone in the other direction.
Love the figures, of course, but I'd have loved them in a blister pack just the same.

Small follow-up: I hate the slime. Hate it. I would rather pay $7.99 for an individual carded figure with no slime than pay $9.99 for two slime-soaked figures.

It was the same back in 2002 in the Alien Agency set 5631 DNA Lab - I get that disecting an Alien is fitting in a lab, but that pudding/clay/whatever you call it just annoyed me big time. Granted, the "skeleton" alien figs was not that interesting as such, but I still want to keep bricks and figs apart from anything gross that sticks with the bricks/figs.

I've spotted these as well at two different Wal-Marts in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. Oddly enough, they are in differing locations.
One Wal-Mart has them in the action figure area one aisle over from the Lego section. The other Wal-Mart has them in the Lego area across the aisle.
On a side note, both Wal-Marts are carrying the new MOTU figures, COD Heroes, Halo Heroes and Halo mystery bags again as well. WOOT!

Saw them in eastern pa and all over NJ. The regular heroes were in the action figure aisle and the eggs varied. Some were with the regular heroes (albeit the shelf below) and some were with the other Aliens figures away from the Mega Construx.

I got all three eggs, complete waves of the first three Breakout Beasts series, and 2/3rds of Series 4,plus the 2-in-1 set. That slime is my nemesis. I have so much slime and it's sticky and annoying. I feel about the slime like Anakin does sand.
