I was out of the game, but ran across a full set of series 1 and couldn’t resist since I was really looking forward to these at one time and had some final custom ideas I wanted to try. Instead of being sucked back in, these ended up being the last nail in the Mega coffin. How did they disappoint me? Let me count the wats: 1) slime I know - it was part of the gimmick, but it was a crappy idea. Maybe if it was included separately it would have been okay, but desliming parts takes too damn long. 2) packaging Okay, I get it, Mega loves their egg-shaped packaging, but the number of badly warped parts is infuriating. Just because I know how to fix them doesn’t mean I want to spend the time doing it. Haven’t had a single one come out in acceptable condition. Did Mega really think kids would be happy with wings that curl different directions or antlers so bent that they look more like brambles growing out of a creature’s head? 3) size What the hell, people?!! Who thought, “Hey, let’s make really cool horse and deer based creatures *twice as big as our current horses* so they can’t be used with any of our cool medieval and fantasy figures”?
Definitely won’t buy more of these, probably won’t buy Breakout Beasts for the same reasons.

I have to admit, the slime is a problem. We noticed that Breakout Beasts 3 slime seems harder to clean off compared to series 1. We opened 2 of the series 3 eggs, but still have 2 un-opened, just because we don't want to deal with the slime. I was thinking of getting some of the crystal creatures, but based on your review will either pass, or wait for deep discount.

I jerk the larger pieces out of the main pool which causes most of the slide to snap off (hurray for non-Newtonian fluid physics). I then rub off as much slime as possible from the rest and throw all the semi-clean pieces on a plate. The remaining slime goes into a sandwich bag and I clean off my hands and the parts in warm water and throw the parts in a paper towel to dry while I pick out the damaged pieces for heat treatment.

Interesting and disappointing observations, LOKA! One gets the sense that these are marketed (at least in part) toward girls, who I don't think are looking forward to desliming their magical figurines. What a goofy idea.
For that matter, MEGA's love of slime has been goofy since the first go-around with Alien Agency, and it's never made any more sense since then.
The packaging also baffles me, because it's a huge waste of plastic that can't be used for anything else. Heck, it can't even be used to store the creature once you've built it, so what's the point?
This is another weird idea in which MEGA has invested for far too long. They had "Power Range head" packaging, and the Pyrates and POTC skulls, not to mention the near-full sized Iron Man head back in the day. Whoever keeps greenlighting this nonsense really needs to rethink it.
That goes for the metal tins they used to use, too. I can see it maybe as a collector's edition of a set, but it adds no value or interest for me, and I'd just as soon have a plain old rectangular box.

As to the egg, they’ve doubled down by making it the only included stable base that you can attach the figure to.
In other news, these almost look right with monster high figures - assuming that they’re young teens and that the unicorns are based on large horses like Clydesdales. The deer could only be megaloceros based at that height.

Well, if we're talking Monster High, then I guess that would make it Meg Ghouloceros.

We'll have more slime to contend with when those alien eggs hit the shelves :/
