I just do not "get" the whole Kubros thing..... Imagine buildable Funko Pops.. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I don't get about Kubros. Everything about Funko Pops seems deliberately calculated to make me desperate not to buy them. I would suspect that it's due to my age, but at no point in my life would they ever have appealed to me. I'm just not part of that tribe, I guess. Of course, given the fact that Kubros sit all but ntouched on shelves in my area, I'm guessing that a lot of people aren't part of that tribe. It might be as peterock speculated upthread, that Kubros are meant to lock in licenses for Mega Construx until they can come up with something good to do with them?

While that does make sense, I'd imagine that the Mega Construx Heroes line does a whole lot of a better job in sparking consumer interest. The MAFs sell like hot cakes, with the most popular ones, ( Xenomorph, He-Man) being virtually impossible to find, while the Kubros line is an utter flop, I still find series one regularly in stores.. I just wish that we would get actual sets from these licenses. A set based on the iconic Space Jockey scene from Alien, or a Planet Express ship from Futurerama would be sweet, hell, make Castle Grayskull the next signature set. We NEED sets to BUILD, not more figures, even though I am guilty at times for only caring about the figures, I want huge sets that I can display with pride. P.S.I can't get the quote to work for some odd reason.

Do you know that mega has that license and are making a Mal kubro? Unfortunately, Kubros is discontinued. The Kubro website an the shop is gone. Which I'm quite bummed about it. I kinda liked the Kubros.

I just do not "get" the whole Kubros thing..... Imagine buildable Funko Pops.. Yeah. Like what Stealthy Lurkers said: It's practically a buildable Funko Pop. It looks like Mega Construx tried to tackle people from the pop culture too. Reason why I liked it so much because I can literally take that one apart and make it to a figure I liked! I turned Spock from Star Trek to Negan from TWD before. I can turn it whatever I like unlike Funko Pops!

Kubros were great for characters I liked. Can't tell you how excited I was for the Aliens and Masters of the Universe sets. I never did find Malcolm Reynolds, but seeing how many of the first wave that clog up the store shelves I suspect that the last wave wasn't heavily ordered. Perhaps we'll get lucky and they'll be swarming discount stores in a few months.
Anyhow, I've long held that this current "Building set craze" is nothing of the sort and that it's just a side-effect of the small collectables craze. People just have to buy a box full of bricks to get the figures they want. I mean, look at those godawful Superheroes sets LEGO sells like gangbusters. Great figures, but half-assed, uninspiring builds. Seems to me that over the past couple years MEGA has sort of realized the truth of things and that's why we've gotten so many figure packs, blind-packs, and finally just carded Micro-Figs.
But, on the other claw, the spirit of BUILDING is still alive with stuff like Kubros. Just imagine how they might have sold had they included Microfigs of the same character with them. But running contrary to my suspicions, there's stuff like the Pokemon line which are massively collectable, have no Micro Figures, and are great building-focused sets. Don't know how well the line is preforming, but the turnover rate on the shelves around here seems decent. I know I'm buying each one and enjoy them immensely.
So...all that being said...what were we talking about again?

I am not so sure the building craze was ever there, or just a question of availability - both on shelves and creatively from manufacturers. Sort of a "chicken & the egg, which came first" scenario. Kubros was a niche market. Not really a Funko and not really a building set. I never even looked at them but then, I never liked the Funko Pops. I think we'll made and designed sets will sell. McFarlane's try to enter building blocks never really worked. Not great building block design and limited MOC chances. Strictly for the collector of the TV themes. Megaconstrux, on the other hand, has a lot of MOC potential. That said, figures do seem the emphasis now. I believe it is not a lack of builders and buyers but a great profit margin with figures! Just my take....

Sort of a "chicken & the egg, which came first" scenario. Some chicken-and-egg sets would be awesome.
