Was digging through pics from the old Custom Fighter Contest. Seems like ages ago when we did that! It was a LOT of work, but well worth it.
I feel like we should kick things off here with a contest. I'm going to be insanely busy for the next 3 months, but that would give everyone plenty of time to come up with ideas and acquire parts. Given the variety of basic parts now available, pop-and swaps aren't going to cut it - everyone will need to up their game and do at least some serious custom work. Given everyone's disappointment with the demise of Assassin's Creed before the really cool sets were released, and the wretched Kingdom sets, I'm thinking something medieval. Maybe with high and low fantasy divisions, with humanoid, demon, and big damn beastie (dragons, giants and other colossal creatures) categories for high fantasy.
Who's in?

I'm in, although I'm not one for customising figures (I don't want to permanently damage a figure), so would custom builds count? I've got some ideas. Also, what would the prize be? Bragging rights, I guess.

I'm willing to entertain the idea of custom builds - but that requires still more categories and we've had trouble drumming up enough participation in the past for even a couple of them. Prize TBD. Given the expense of mailing physical prizes, the last couple of contests were done with an entry fee via paypal for each piece and the winner(s) divided the take. All entries became anonymous and were voted on by the entire board. Only really worthwhile if we get decent participation.

I'm not that big on cashing in to enter (I'm too cheap), but there doesn't have to be any prize, it can just be for fun, which would also reduce the number of "I was more deserving for this reason" comments, if there were to be any.

it's actually never been a problem. Oddly enough, the hardest contests to drum up interest for were the free ones.

I could announce the competition on Spartan Bloks and the MCX official forums, of which I'm a part of, and show the entries here on behalf of those members. If we were doing a pay-per-entry competition, I doubt I'd enter. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, nor am I saying that you shouldn't do it if that's what you think is the best idea, all I'm saying is that I wouldn't enter.

Oh, hellz nooo!!! One of our longstanding rules here is that contests are for members only. We'll see what the resident customizers (aka: the usual suspects) have to say.

Sure that's fine. Would we be able to use some sci-fi elements in our builds? They would still be fantasy, just with some aspects of sci-fi.

Hell yes I'm in. I can also help with prizes as well if we go that way.

Hmm. Just out of curiosity, how much do you think would each member have to contribute if we went for a "pay-per-entry" method?

Depends on interest level, but it's usually been <$5. I think the last one was $2.50 per entry.

I'm sure Pete will be good with that. Plus I've got a bunch of sets and figs I've been hoarding over the years for custom purposes.

You know that if you enter, we'll have to add a master-class division.
