Hi Everyone.
I am a new member from the U.K and have only just found the Bloks Forum and in fact have only just gotten into the brick business a few months ago. Before that I was a contented 65 year old with a lifetime interest in WW1 & 2 military. (My main interest is firearms and collecting them). I gave up building and painting kits in my late teens as I could never hope to produce some of the stunning models that were being shown in modelling magazines at the time. All my life I have had one collection or another on the go, mainly sci-fi and hoped that was where it would end but some work colleagues had started buying the premier Lego Star Wars and lEGO's other expensive stuff and although it was of interest It didn't really inspire me to get involved in that genre. I kept asking the question as to why Lego didnt do military stuff and eventually found Cobi whilst looking on line, a company that was producing great military stuff. Thats when the trouble started, I sent off for a few and got to building over the last Christmas period but soon found as I looked for more to buy that the model line had started to evolve and that there were older ones which were no longer produced as they had been improved and re-released, sometimes with new box art. It was then that my interest in building stopped and my collectors instinct clicked in and I decided that I needed to have every Cobi model made in all their variations, every different type of box art for the same vehicle. I was not helped in this adventure as the models were re-released with the same product code and often found myself yelling down the phone at shops, the Tank museum etc who had sent me a different model that the one advertised but with the same code. YOUR PERSHING HAS THE BARREL POINTED STRAIGHT ON AND I WANTED THE ONE WHERE IT IS POINTED TO THE LEFT, ITS NOT AS ADVERTISED I would say to them. Needless to say they thought I was mad. There are two different types of box variations - 1 - where it is a completely different photo of a revised model and 2 - where the photo looks almost exactly the same but with subtle differences (just noticed this on the Panzer 1 today). The Panzer 111 is another. I will put a few photos of these on line if it is of interest to anyone along with a picture of my collection. To date I am pretty much caught up with every single variant except for a few WoT and am keeping on top of new releases from the great Kobikowski, a fantastic dealer with great prices and postage. I need to say that my Cobi interest is with tanks, submarines, warships (I cannot cope with the range of planes it would tip me over the edge). Needless to say, I now have a full room of unmade Cobi stuff thanks to an understanding wife. Also my hats off to you guys that make the incredible M.O.C.'s as shown on this site, I just wouldn't know where to start doing one. I think my role is curator of unmade Cobi. Sorry for rambling on.
There are still 4 old models to get although I do have them with later product codes and if anyone has them for sale that would be great.
2436 Tiger, 2437 Sherman, 2438 T34, 2439 Matilda.
