I've got a lot of bricks. Up to this point, my color-based sorting system has worked out just fine. But a couple years ago I started breaking full sets that I had in storage down into parts and one thing became obvious, there are a LOT of black, light gray, and dark gray bricks. Storage is not a problem, but searching through these immense tubs during a building project has become pretty close to impossible. For instance, imagine sorting through this looking for a 2x3 black plate. I've got to reduce down further. I'm thinking that I should separate into at least 5 different categories; Bricks, Slopes, Plates, Tiles, and everything else. But I wanted to float this out these to see if anyone else could recommend another category of parts that I should try and segregate out of this.

Yeah I'd say sorting them bu type would be best. If you do 1x4s in one drawer, 1x5s and 1x6s in another ect, would wort best. That's what I do and it works fine.
